Shrimp fishing with horses has a long history in the coastal region of Belgium, dating back hundreds of years. A traditional way of fishing, it almost disappeared, with Oostduinkerke in the west being the last stronghold to protect this tradition.
Once per year, at Vosseslag near De Haan, a demonstration is held to inform people about this interesting custom. The giant draft horses pulling the net though the shallow shores of the Belgian North Sea is truly an impressive sight.
